Handoff is probably the most critical process in terms of packet loss and delay particularly in vehicle to vehicle communications. Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) face many challenges; in particular, frequent Handoffs due to high mobility of vehicles is a serious performance limitation factor. In this research work, an efficient architecture for VANETs that consider both Received Signal Strength (RSS) parameters and Global Positioning System (GPS) information along with maps for hand-off decision is proposed. Scanner modules in all vehicles that can scan and query the nearby vehicles to get their direction and speed through on-board GPS is Incorporated.
