Im Hauptgebäude der ETH Zürich überlagern und widersprechen sich die Bau- und Lehrkonzepte dreier Architekten- und Hochschullehrergenerationen, vom Semperbau über Gulls Polytechnikum bis hin zu Charles-Edouard Geisendorfs Umbauten der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Räume, Raumfolgen, Belichtung, Erschließung und Oberflächen sind derzeit durch die Verdichtungen der 1960er- und 1970er-Jahre bestimmt. Angesichts unterschiedlicher Ansprüche, die künftig an das Hauptgebäude gestellt werden, sind kurz-, mittel- und langfristige Strategien zur Bewahrung und Wiederherstellung von Qualitäten im heterogenen Bestand notwendig. Unter der Leitung von Uta Hassler wurden dazu Projekte für Kernbereiche des »Poly« - Treppen, Korridore, Kuppelsaal, Räume der Schulleitung, Aula - entworfen und teilweise umgesetzt.
