Was läßt ein eigentlich heterogenes Ensemble von Mitgliedern in einer As-Sociation und unter einer Programmatik zusammenkommen? Warum kann die ebenso heterogene künstlerische Produktion der Beteiligten dennoch als "Ganzheit" wahrgenommen werden? Als Antwort wird eine Literatursoziologie literarisch-kultureller Gruppierungen entwickelt, die das methodische Instrumentarium der Diskursanalyse nutzt, um die "harten" sozialhistorischen Daten der Gruppierungen und die "weichen" ästhetischen Strukturen der Programme und Werke im Schnittfeld ihrer gemeinsamen interdiskursiven Elemente aufeinander zu beziehen. Expliziert wird dieses Modell für den Zeitraum von 1843 bis 1924 an den Gesellschaften "Glocke", "Bergwerk", "Stürmerkreis", "Charonkreis" und "Werdandi-Bund".
