Six acclaimed American authors who are from Mississippi speak about their work and give candid discussions of what inspires them to write. Walker Percy, Margaret Walker, Ellen Douglas, Willie Morris, Turner Cassity, and James Whitehead visit with oral historian John Griffin Jones, who keeps the talk conversational though literary. Opinionated, forthright, and willing to examine their works and their art, these authors offer fresh insights into our understanding of the creative process. We see their individuality, their personalities, and their urges to achieve. Reading these interviews is much like sitting with each author and finding out first-hand how his or her work was done. This is the second volume in a series of interviews Jones conducted with Mississippi writers. In the first, he talked with Eudora Welty, Shelby Foote, Elizabeth Spencer, Barry Hannah, and Beth Henley.
