Klabund (1890-1928), bürgerlich Alfred Henschke, veröffentlichte seine ersten Gedichte 1913 und schrieb für die Zeitschriften "Simplizissimus", "Pan" und die "Schaubühne", aus der später die "Weltbühne" hervorgehen sollte. Im Ersten Weltkrieg wandelte er sich zum radikalen Pazifisten und begann, sich für fernöstliche Literatur zu interessieren. Der schwer lungenkranke Autor schrieb in seinem kurzen Leben nicht weniger als 25 Bühnenstücke und 14 Romane, populär waren aber vor allem seine kunstvoll volkstümlichen Gedichte. Der Kurzroman "Mohammed" erschien 1917 und schildert das Leben des Propheten angelehnt an den Stil klassisch-arabischer Erzählungen.
