In 'Over de brug' zijn ervaringen met en visies op de eeuwenoude spanning tussen werken, onderzoeken en leren in boekvorm gebundeld. Hoe kan het academisch onderwijs functioneren als brug tussen universiteiten en organisaties. Dat is de centrale vraag voor het duaal wetenschappelijk onderwijs. In 1998 heeft minister Ritzen het initiatief genomen tot experimenten met duale opleidingen aan de Nederlandse universiteiten. Anno 2008 kent het Nederlandse hoger onderwijs tientallen duale wetenschappelijke opleidingen. Rondom deze opleidingen ontstaan netwerken waarin organisaties, universiteiten en professionals participeren. Over de brug beschrijft de huidige stand van zaken van de samenwerking tussen organisaties en universiteiten, met praktijkvoorbeelden van duale wetenschappelijke opleidingen: analyserende, beschouwende en praktische bijdragen over de spanningsvelden werken, onderzoeken en leren.
