Following on from Murder in Church Alley, Pingle the Incompetent Detective Inspector has been moved to Bakewell. We discover more about the hapless DI, as he ambles through a series of local crimes. Frankly Pingle is an embarrassment, especially as far as friends George and Theo are concerned. He drives a maroon and black Citron 2CV, known as the sardine can and loves a budgie called Peeler. We follow the policeman as he fails to stop the theft of bikes, tries to capture sheep rustlers but gets himself kidnapped instead, loses all the money donated at the Carnival and causes chaos at Bakewell Show. Pingle is hopeless at his job, he probably couldn't catch a cold without the help of friends George and Theo.
