This monograph on Calatrava's celebrated structures for the 2004 Athens Olympics will appeal to architecture students, professionals, and design enthusiasts. Santiago Calatrava established his reputation as the pre-eminent engineer of our time with a stunning series of bridges designed for cities around the globe - Barcelona, Bilbao, Buenos Aires, Orleans, Seville, Venice, and, most recently, Jerusalem. This definitive volume on Calatrava's designs for the 2004 Olympics Games in Athens is a splendidly illustrated presentation of Calatrava's celebrated stadium roof and refurbishment of the velodrome as well as the various plazas and ceremonial spaces created for the event. All of these projects will be featured in sumptuous full-colour photography from some of the world's most respected architectural photographers, and Alexander Tzonis, the foremost authority on the career of Calatrava, will provide an insightful commentary that places the Athens complex in the context of the dual spirit of competition and community that has always characterized the Olympic games.
