Die Hauptschwierigkeit besteht dabei nicht in irgendwelchen komplizierten Lehren oder Konzepten, sondern gerade in deren Abwesenheit. So besitzt der Shinté weder einen Gründer noch eine Heilige Schrift, noch eine festumrissene Glaubenslehre. In der vorliegenden Einführung werden die Besonderheiten des Shinté anschaulich und verständlich dargestellt, das historisch bedeutsame Verhältnis von Staat und Shinté erörtert und die Einflüsse des Shinté auf deas heutige Japan angesprochen. Zum Abschluß wird der Shinté in den Kontext der aktuellen Diskussion um die "asiatischen Werte" gestellt.
