When Surfing Detective Kai Cooke receives a phone call at his Maunakea Street office, he never knows where the call is coming from. But the caller in this case doesn't leave him in suspense long.

It's an attorney from Cheyenne, Wyoming.  And she wants Kai to track down the wayward heir of a ten-million-dollar estate. Twelve years earlier this ne'er-do-well pulled up stakes in the Cowboy State, flew to Honolulu, and hasn't been heard from since. Despite a dearth of clues, one thing might help Kai find him: with luxurious black hair and pop star looks the wandering heir, some say, resembles the legendary King of Rock 'n' Roll.

So begins "The Man with Elvis Eyes," the first tale in this new collection of previously unpublished crime stories. Tracking the Elvis lookalike on a longshot Kai ends up on Maui.  Other cases take him further afield: San Francisco, Seattle, and Lāna'i. On O'ahu the PI has his hands full too: staking out a cheating spouse, unearthing a teenage runaway, outing a firebug, and serving papers on a deadbeat dad.

Whoever the client, whatever the case, these investigations take twists and turns that challenge Kai and promise his fans endless delight.

THE LAST WAVE returns veteran Surfing Detective Kai Cooke to his earliest cases, eight previously unpublished investigations involving arson, fraud, missing persons, cheating spouses, theft, murder, and more. Kai has recently established his agency above Fujiyama's Flower Leis in Honolulu's Chinatown. It's a time before the tech we take for granted today and the PI relies on insights from surfing to untangle his intricate webs. "Sherlock Holmes had his pipe," Kai tells us. "I have my surfboard." These fast-moving tales deliver the vivid island people and places readers have come to expect from the series. As many who have followed his adventures say, "You feel like you're there." The last wave is quintessential Surfing Detective you won't want to miss.
