The Unintentional Comedian

Kelli Houston's life began under a cloud of uncertainty, with her survival in question from the start. Her family viewed her as a miracle, strengthened by her grandmother's fervent prayers. This extraordinary status marked the start of a demanding path toward understanding herself.

From a young age, Kelli wrestled with her place within her family and among her peers. When she discovered a group where she felt accepted, she also recognized a profound difference within herself, a secret she shared with only a trusted few.

This memoir looks back at Kelli's childhood in the 1980s, when she was forced to conceal her identity as a lesbian. Hiding this part of herself shaped her friendships, creating some of her closest bonds while also creating distance between her and her family.

Kelli's narrative is infused with humor and candid honesty, offering a window into her personal world. Her story includes moments as a stand-up comedian and as an advocate for equity and justice. Through emotional struggles and difficult decisions in the pursuit of happiness, love, and redemption, Kelli discovered the importance of healing and self-worth.

The Unintentional Comedian is an inspiration for anyone who has felt out of place. With warmth and candor, she invites readers to celebrate authenticity and embrace the ongoing quest toward becoming their truest selves.
