"Undercover: Kiya and Malik's Juneteenth Adventure" is an engaging children's book that follows the imaginative journey of two young siblings, Kiya and Malik, aged 5, as they discover the remarkable history behind quilts and their significance in African American culture. Set in the vibrant city of Washington, DC, this heartfelt tale combines playfulness, family bonding, and historical exploration.

When Kiya and Malik visit their grandparents' house, they quickly set upon making a blanket fort out of old quilts found around the house that will serve as their secret agent headquarters. They are soon sending out secret messages from their headquarters as they embark on their journey into the world of secret agents. They will soon learn that they actually come from a long line of secret agents.

Kiya and Malik soon learn that they come from a long line of 'secret agents.' Guided by their wise and loving grandparents, Grammy and Pop-Pop, Kiya and Malik learn about the incredible role quilts played in African American history. Through vivid conversations, Grammy shares captivating tales of how their great-great grandmother Fannie made quilts and that these quilts were used by enslaved people to communicate important messages and guide fellow freedom seekers to the Underground Railroad, a secret network leading to freedom.

Inspired by these stories, Kiya and Malik's curiosity turns into a creative spark. Together these two secret agents decide to make a special Juneteenth-themed quilt patterns, symbolizing their celebration of freedom and African American heritage. They use these patterns to spread their own message of the Juneteenth celebration happening in town. Seeing the incredible work their ancestors have inspired, Grammy and Pop-Pop could not be prouder of their grandchildren for carrying on this time-honored tradition. The children have learned an important lesson of not only their own history but the power of unity, resilience, and the importance of honoring their ancestors' struggles.

Throughout the book, vivid illustrations bring the characters and their surroundings to life, capturing the warmth and joy of family connections, while also showcasing the historical context. "Undercover: Kiya and Malik's Juneteenth Adventure" delivers a powerful message of cultural heritage, promoting empathy, understanding, and appreciation for diversity. It encourages young readers aged 5-11 to celebrate the past, embrace their identity, and cherish the traditions that unite us all.

Join Kiya and Malik on their thrilling and educational journey as they discover the rich tapestry of African American history and the joy of connecting with their roots through the art of quilting.
