En l'absence d'un élément morphemique qui puisse rendre compte du mode en kinyarwanda, les morphotončmes s'avčrent indispensables dans l'identification des modes de cette langue. Ainsi, ils permettent d'identifier trois modes, ŕ savoir, l'indicatif, l'impératif et le conditionnel. Un réexamen des modes dits traditionnels, qui ne s'appuient que sur l'aspect uniquement sémantique, montre également que les modes du kinyarwanda peuvent ętre limités ŕ trois. Cette agréable coďncidence entre les modes traditionnels révisés et les modes identifiés ŕ l'aide des morphotončmes constitue une grande part de solution ŕ un problčme qui s'est longtemps manifesté dans l'étude du verbe kinyarwanda.
