Erst spät im Leben - die alternde Mutter ist schwer krank, und Marcin pflegt sie - offenbart sich die Familiengeschichte in Gänze: eine Lebenserzählung zwischen Anekdote und Abgrund. Der Krieg ist nicht vorbei. Kein Krieg ist je vorbei._

2023 fand Martin Piekar mit einem Auszug aus diesem Roman beim Bachmann-Preis in Klagenfurt begeistertes Echo; er wurde mit dem Robert-Gernhardt-Preis 2024 ausgezeichnet und war 2025 für den Alfred-Döblin-Preis nominiert.
