This novel is one of the most famous novels of the French writer Voltaire, written in 1759, and translated into Arabic by Adel Zaiter in 1955. It is a philosophical novel whose events revolve around an innocent young man who lived and grew up in his uncle's house, who entrusted his education to a teacher, who instilled in him the idea of ??optimism and goodwill, which isolated him from the outside world and made him expect good from everyone, trust them, and look at life with a very bright outlook. After his uncle discovered his relationship with his beautiful daughter, he expelled him from his palace, just as Adam was expelled from Paradise. He turns into a vagabond, along with his optimistic teacher, Pangloss, who tries to make the young man's misfortune easier and instill optimism in him. However, the long wandering between many countries and the discovery of people's hypocrisy, the world's misery, and his black face confirm the error of his teacher's theory, especially when Candide falls into the hands of pirates. He meets an old Turkish man in his captivity, who advises him to devote himself to cultivating his home garden, as evil cannot be eliminated. He becomes angry with his teacher, who is a fictional representation. From the philosophers Leibniz and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, whose ideas and theses Voltaire ridicules, Candide begins a new life having concluded that his master's teachings are nonsense.
